Double Page Spread

Last week there was outrage over a post made by Denise Dorman on her blog, comicbookwife.com. The wife of reknowned sci fi cover artist Dave Dorman (Star Wars, GI Joe, Alien, Predator), frankly discussed the issues affecting artists at conventions recently and how the changing demographics are decreasing sales. Denise and Dave were kind enough to join Wendi in an open dialogue of how the industry is changing and what artists and fans can do together to keep commerce alive and our interests relevant.

Peter Bagge has one of the most legendary styles in indie comics history. His Buddy Bradley and "Hate" comics were a pivotal part of 90s Seattle underground culture and his work still shows up in a diverse array of places, from DC and Marvel to Mad magazine and political journals. He discusses overcoming the "slacker" and grunge stigma, engages in an extensive discussion of Zora Neale Hurston and race relations in light of Ferguson, and where he gets treated better- indie art shows or Wizard World. It's a funny conversation with many enlightening moments.

In this episode Wendi goes to Aw Yeah! Comics to celebrate the release of Oni Press' "The Life After" with writer Joshua Hale Fialkov and artist Gabo! They discuss the new book and it's concepts of spirituality and purgatory as well as his previous work on "The Bunker" and "I, Vampire". Then he makes suicide sound very appealing.

Next is a conversation with Mike Federali, organizer of Tidewater Con, an upstart comic convention in Virginia Beach. He's an energetic, enthusiastic proponent of really making comics part of the community for everyone. He's assembled this convention with guests like Sam Huntington, Joel Hodgson, Pop Mahn, Nancy Collins and more.
